Movement-Based literacy
*IN-PERSON WORKSHOP* — Saturday, March 14, 2026
In this 6-hour workshop, join Kailina in-person for a day of learning and movement!
During our day together, participants will learn about the science and research behind reading. How do children learn to read? What skills do they need to develop before they attempt to read print? What do we know about how children learn generally that we can apply to teaching literacy? Kailina will provide an overview regarding the science of reading, as well as the science behind how our brains and bodies work together to help us learn.
Over the course of the day, we will practice and explore several ways to incorporate movement into early literacy instruction so that students are more engaged, retain information better, and develop a strong literacy foundation that will help them grow into fluent readers!
This workshop is best suited for teachers and administrators who work with Preschool, Kindergarten, and/or First Grade students.
Certificate of completion will be provided at the end of the course and may count toward your annual professional development requirements.

Nature-based curriculum: Building your teaching toolkit
*IN-PERSON WORKSHOP* – Monday, April 20, 2026
In this 6-hour workshop, join Kailina in-person for a day of learning! Participants will gather together to learn a variety of outdoor games, songs, activities, and tools to add to your teaching toolkit.
During our day, Kailina will share about the benefits of nature-based teaching and learning and the research behind it. Then we will dive into activities that you can use in your classroom to encourage deeper connections to nature. This will be an active, hands-on training where you do the activities yourself. There will also be time to reflect on how to facilitate each activity as the teacher.
You will leave the training with fresh tools that you can implement in your classroom for successful outdoor learning!
Certificate of completion will be provided at the end of the course and may count toward your annual professional development requirements.

*VIRTUAL, PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY*
In this professional learning community, we will gather for 2-hours weekly on Zoom for 16 weeks. You can join for one 16-week session or keep coming back to dig deeper into your practice over time!
Together with Kailina, participants will review learning materials from their classrooms, talk about real-classroom moments, and explore readings to investigate how their teaching practice can change, improve, and adapt to better serve their students.
This style of dialogue-based, reflective professional learning community is deeply influenced by the approaches of the Reggio Emilia community, Vivian Gussin Paley, and bell hooks, among others.
This learning community is best suited for teachers and administrators who work with Toddlers, Preschool, Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, and Third Grade students.
Certificate of completion will be provided at the end of the course and may count toward your annual professional development requirements.
